Nancy Grace Roman Space Telescope
Nancy Grace Roman Space Telescope is to be launched by NASA to observe supernovae across the universe. It is named after NASA’s first Chief of Astronomy. Formerly known as Wide Field Infrared Survey Telescope, it will seek to measure the pace of universe’s expansion and provide a novel method to study the distribution of dark matter, which is detectable only through its gravitational effects.
The telescope will be probing type Ia supernova to study the rate at which they move away from the Earth so as to better understand the cosmic expansion. This is to help assess the changes in dark energy across the universe. The objective here is to study the influence of dark energy on the universe.
