Nadu-Nedu Scheme Extended to Anganwadi Centres in AP

The Andhra Pradesh Government has taken the decision to extend the ambit of the NADU-Nedu scheme to the Anganwadi centres also in the state and develop them with 10 facilities that are being provided now in the government schools across the state. The decision has been taken in a review meeting chaired by the CM YS Jagan Mohan Reddy.

What is Nadu-Nedu Scheme?

The main objective of the scheme is to transform the government schools into vibrant and competitive institutions. All the government schools in the state will be provided with the required infrastructure for this purpose and also the skill up-gradation will take place by setting up English labs. Basic amenities such as clean environment, furniture, toilets, running water, compound wall, blackboard, renovation, etc. will also be ensured in the schools.

This scheme is implemented in 15715 schools in the first phase and all the schools will be covered in this scheme within the next three years. The total budget has been pegged at Rs 12000 crores out of which Rs 3500 crores will be spent for the first three years for the development of infrastructure.

Now with the present decision, the Anganwadi centres will be covered under this scheme. These centres will now be divided into two categories – the first will be concerned with pregnant women, lactating mothers and children below 36 months of age whereas the second will be services related to children between 36-72 months of age.

At present, 55607 Anganwadi centres are operating in the state out of which 20957 are functioning out of dedicated buildings.
