Nabam Tuki

Recently, Arunachal Pradesh chief minister Jarbom Gamlin resigned after 40 Congress legislators adopted a one-point resolution asking party chief Sonia Gandhi to choose Gamlin’s successor. The resignation capped a prolonged resistance to Gamlin’s selection as CM, led by dissident leader Nabam Tuki.

The Political crisis:

Congress controls 42 of the 60 assembly seats. Jarbom Gamlin had taken charge after the death of his predecessor, Dorjee Khandu, in a helicopter crash on April 30 and since then critics have accused him of “authoritarian rule”.

40 Congress legislators adopted a one-point resolution asking party chief Sonia Gandhi to choose Gamlin’s successor. Later, to end the crisis, Sonia Gandhi nominated Tuki as the new Congress Legislature Party (CLP) leader, who is also Arunachal Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) president.

Nabam Tuki was sworn in as the seventh chief minister of the state bringing to an end a political crisis that has lasted four months. The Governor of Arunachal Pardesh general (retd) J J Singh administered the oath of office to Tuki, 47, at a function at the Raj Bhawan.
