Mount Sangay

Mount Sangay is an active volcano in central Ecuador. It is a stratovolcano i.e. a composite volcano characterised by steep profile and multiple layers of hardened lava. Recently, the volcano expelled ash clouds as high as 8,500 m into the sky and resulted in significant ash fall. The volcano’s eruption has been expected since 2019. Ecuador is in the Pacific Ring of Fire region and it has 8 volcanoes.
