MoU for Varanasi Skill India International Centre

A memorandum of understanding (MoU) has been signed between the National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC) and DP World of UAE so as to develop a Skill India International Centre at Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh. The MoU was signed by Hindustan Ports Private Limited, the Indian unit of DP World.

Why was this MoU signed?

This MoU has been signed to encourage the youth of India to pursue overseas employment opportunities in the areas of port operations, logistics, and allied areas.

What is the aim of the Skill India International Centres?

The aim of the Skill India International Centres is to provide the Indian youth with high-quality training. These centres will be hosting training facilities, that will provide skills to the youth of the country as per the demand of various international employers who are located in the countries such as Canada, the United Arab Emirates (UAE), the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) region, and Australia.

How will the partnering organizations of the Skill India International Centres help?

These centres will be having a wide network of overseas recruiters and partnering organizations that will help facilitate the supply of certified and skilled workforce. The partnering organizations will also be working with the NSDC to increase the demand for the Indian workforce in the overseas markets.

What other services will be provided by the Skill India International Centres?

These centres will also be offering other services like:

  • Counselling
  • Mobilisation
  • pre-departure orientation
  • skill training
  • placement support
  • foreign language training
  • post-placement and immigration support.

What is the Gulf Cooperation Council region?

GCC is an economic and political alliance that comprises 6 Middle Eastern countries that are Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, the United Arab Emirates, Oman, and Bahrain.
