Motera’s Sardar Patel Cricket Stadium to become the largest Cricket Stadium in the world
The Sardar Patel Cricket Stadium in Motera, Ahmedabad is set to become the largest cricket stadium in the world in terms of seating capacity. At present, the stadium can accommodate 54,000 people but after the stadium’s renovation, it will be able to accommodate about 1,10,000 people, which is double its present seating capacity. As of now, the Melbourne Cricket Ground is the stadium with largest seating capacity as it can seat 1,00,024. Apart from improved seating capacity, the stadium after renovation will have a better infrastructure with increased facilities. The stadium’s renovation project has been handed over to Larsen and Turbo (L&T) and is expected to be completed in the next two years.
The four Indian Stadiums which are among the top five in the world at the present are: Kolkata’s Eden Gardens (66,000), Shaheed Veer Narayan Singh International Cricket Stadium in Naya Raipur (65,000), Jawaharlal Nehru International Stadium in Kochi (60,000), and the Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium in Hyderabad (60,000).
