MoSPI Launches Revamped Microdata Portal

The Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MoSPI) has recently launched a revamped Microdata Portal. This initiative was revealed during the Conference of State Government Ministers. The new portal aims to improve data accessibility and user experience. It integrates advanced technologies into the Official Statistical System. The portal serves as a central repository for extensive statistical data collected from national surveys and economic censuses.

Objectives

The main objective of the revamped portal is to overcome technological limitations of its predecessor. It aims to provide users with easier access to a wide range of statistical data. Innovative AI/ML Classification Tool

MoSPI introduced an AI/ML-based classification tool during the launch. This tool simplifies the use of the National Industrial Classification (NIC) in producing official statistics. It employs natural language processing to allow users to input text queries. The tool then suggests the top five relevant NIC codes. This innovation reduces manual effort and increases accuracy in data collection.

Collaboration with the World Bank

The development of the new portal involved collaboration with the World Bank Technology Team. This partnership ensured that a modern and scalable technology stack was adopted. The new system complies with the latest security standards. It also supports a responsive design for easier data access.

National Statistical System Training Academy

Alongside the portal, the National Statistical System Training Academy website was launched. This website aims to centralise information regarding capacity-building initiatives. Users can access training resources and other relevant information in one place. This initiative enhances the overall user experience and promotes skill development within the statistical domain.
