Mongla and Chattogram declared as Ports of Call under Coastal Shipping Agreement

The Minister of State (independent charge) for Shipping and, Chemical and Fertilizers, Mansukh Mandaviya in a written reply to Lok Sabha on Thursday, 5th December 2019 informed that Mongla Port and Chattogram Port are declared as Port of Call under the Coastal Shipping Agreement between India and Bangladesh.

The Port of Mongla is declared as Port of Call under the Protocol on Inland Water Transit and Trade (PIWT&T) between India and Bangladesh. The Chattogram Port is not a part of the PIWT&T.

The following cities are existing Ports of Call in two countries under the PIWT&T on the India-Bangladesh Protocol route: India: Kolkata, Haldia, Pandu, Karimganj, Silghat, and Dhubri, Bangladesh: Narayanganj, Khulna, Mongla, Sirajganj, Ashuganj, Pangaon.

An MoU agreement and standard operating procedure (SOP) has been signed between both the countries for the use of Mongla Port and Chattogram Port for movement of goods to and from India.

Port of Call means an intermediate port where ships customarily stop for repairs, trans-shipment of cargo or taking on supplies, fuels.
