Mohammed Anas to be conferred with GV Raja Award
Last week, the Sports Minister of Kerala, E P Jayarajan announced the names of the recipient of the sports awards of the state. Indian sprinter and national record holder in 400 meters sprint, Mohammed Anas Yahiya was selected as the winner of the GV Raja award (Male) for athletics, which is the highest sporting honor in Kerala instituted by Kerala State Sports Council. Anas has presented the award for winning the silver medal for India in the 400-meter race at the Asian Games held in Jakarta, Indonesia. He had also won Gold in the 2017 Asian Athletics Championships.
In the female category, PC Thulasi was selected as the recipient of the GV Raja award. Thulasi is an Indian badminton player from Palakkad district, who was the national champion in 2016.
Both the awards carry prize money of Rs 3 Lakh and a citation. Kerala long jump coach TP Ouseph won the Olympian Suresh Babu Memorial Lifetime Achievement Award, while the best coach award was awarded to Satheevan Balan, who guided Kerala men’s football team to the triumph of the National Football Championship, Santosh Trophy in 2018.
