MIS-C

Multisystem inflammatory syndrome in children (MIS-C) is a medical condition involving the inflammation of different body parts. These include heart, lungs, kidneys, brain, skin, eyes or gastrointestinal organs. Symptoms include fever, abdominal pain, diarrhoea, bloodshot eyes etc. While the MIS-C can be fatal, many children have been cured after medical intervention.

While the cause is still unknown, such cases are seen in children earlier infected or exposed to COVID-19. It was found to be rare immune overreaction that occurs some 4 to 6 weeks after a mild or asymptomatic COVID-19 infection. Anticipating a surge in such cases, Pune paediatric Covid task force urged increased vaccination coverage and awareness about the condition.
