Mirabai Chanu wins Gold at Qatar International Cup

The Commonwealth Games Gold medalist and Former World Weightlifting Champion, Saikhom Mirabai Chanu won the Gold medal for India in the women’s 49kg category in the ongoing 6th edition of the Qatar International Cup in Doha on Friday, 20th December 2019.
A 2018 Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna award recipient, Mirabai Chanu finished on the top of the podium by lifting 83Kg in snatch and 111Kg in clean and jerk, making a total of 194Kg, 7 short of her personnel best. The Qatar International Cup is also an on-road qualifying event for the Tokyo 2020 Olympics. The points secured by the 24-year-old Manipuri weightlifter Mirabai Chanu will further come handy for her for making into the Tokyo Olympics next year.
The Qatar International Weightlifting cup is organized by the Qatar Weightlifting Federation and the Budapest headquartered international governing body for Olympic weightlifting, the International weightlifting Federation (IWF).
