Meta Launches ‘Scam Se Bacho’ Safety Campaign in India

Meta, in partnership with the Indian government, launched a safety campaign called ‘Scam se Bacho’. This campaign will run for two months and is designed to help people in India learn how to avoid online scams. The initiative comes in response to the growing number of cyber fraud cases in the country.

The ‘Scam se Bacho’ campaign is a collaborative effort involving several key government ministries:

  • Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology
  • Ministry of Home Affairs
  • Ministry of Information and Broadcasting It also works with the Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre.

Objectives

The campaign has three main goals:

  • Raise awareness about online scams and cyber fraud.
  • Provide citizens with tools and knowledge to stay safe online.
  • Promote a culture of caution so that people are more aware of cyber threats and know how to avoid them.

Government’s Commitment

This campaign shows the Indian government’s strong commitment to fighting cyber threats, especially as India’s digital presence grows rapidly. India has over 900 million internet users, and in 2023, about 1.1 million cyber fraud cases were reported. This has increased the need for better digital literacy and security.

Sanjay Jaju, the Secretary of Information and Broadcasting, said that this campaign could grow into a “national movement” to promote online safety. By using Meta’s expertise in digital platforms, the campaign aims to empower citizens to stay safe as digital technology advances, ensuring people are more aware of cybersecurity risks and how to protect themselves.
