International Council of Nurses
The Council is a federation with more than 130 nurse associations that represents more than 20 million nurses all over the world. It was founded in 1899 and is the widest reaching organization. Also, it is associated with the World Bank, International Labour Organization and World Health Organization.
Year of Nurse and Midwife
This year 2020 is celebrated as the Year of Nurse and Midwife as it is the 200th birth anniversary of Florence Nightingale. This is being organized by the World Health Organization in order to achieve Universal Health Coverage. Also, the State of World’s Nursing Report was launched by WHO on World Health Day to celebrate the year. The report provides a detailed insight about the nursing workforce globally.
Florence Nightingale
Nightingale was called the “Lady with the Lamp”. This was because she used to make rounds through the camps with a lamp. She was born to a wealthy English family in Italy. She was famous for her innovative nursing care.
