Mauritius to provide India automatic exchange of tax information
In a step taken to address India’s concerns about Mauritius being used for money laundering activities, the island nation has decided to provide automatic exchange of tax related information with India.
India and Mauritius have also agreed upon to have an innovative partnership to strengthen their bilateral ties. In this direction, the Prime Minister’s Office (PMOs) of both nations would set up special cells for effective implementation of ideas.
Around 70% population of Mauritius is of the people of Indian descent. The incumbent Prime Minister’s father, late Seewoosagur Ramgoolam was a leader in Mauritian independence movement and also served as the first Chief Minister and Prime Minister of Mauritius. Seewoosagur Ramgoolam is also known as ‘Father of Nation’ of Mauritius.
