March Equinox

The Spring Equinox of 2020 falls on March 20th -marking the start of astronomical spring for the Northern Hemisphere.

Equinox

The term equinox is derived from Latin words ‘equi’ meaning equal and ‘nox’ meaning night. It is the day when the Earth is neither tilted away or towards the Sun. This implies that the duration of daylight is same at all points on the Earth.

Northern Hemisphere

The March Equinox in the Northern Hemisphere is also known as Vernal Equinox or the Spring Equinox. It marks the beginning of the astronomical spring. Each year, the Spring Equinox falls on one of these days: March 19th, 20th or the 21st.

Southern Hemisphere

The March Equinox is known as the Autumn Equinox in the Southern Hemisphere. It marks the beginning of autumn and the end of summer in this hemisphere. Equinoxes are different from Solstices. There are Summer and Winter Solstices.
