Manik Saha has taken oath as the new Chief Minister of Tripura on 15th May 2022.
Why was he elected as the Chief Minister?
He was elected as the new Chief Minister of the state after former CM Biplab Kumar Deb resigned from the post. Manik Saha is the BJP State unit president of Tripura as well as the only Rajya Sabha MP from the state. He was elected as the leader of the party at a meeting that was held at the Chief Minister’s official residence. The decision of Saha to take up the post of the CM was decided at a legislature party meeting after the former CM’s resignation.

The Governor of the state Satyadeo Narain Arya had administered the oath of secrecy to Manik Saha at a ceremony that was held at Raj Bhawan.
Why did former CM Biplab Kumar Deb resign from the post?
Deb’s resigned a day after meeting Amit Shah, India’s Home Minister, and J.P. Nadda, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) president in New Delhi. The decision for his resignation from the post came from the top leadership of the BJP.
