Mandarin duck

Mandarin duck or Aix galericulata is native to East Asia. It breeds in Russia, Korea, Japan and north-eastern parts of China. Its population has expanded to Western Europe and America. This migratory duck’s visit to India is pretty rare, since the country does not fall in the usual migratory route. Thus, this bird became a major attraction in the Maguri-Motapung beel in Assam after it was first spotted in February.
