Manav Thakkar becomes first Indian to be ranked World No.1 in U-21 Men’s Singles Category

19-year-old Indian table tennis player Manav Thakkar has jumped nine places to become the world number 1 in the Under-21 Men’s single category rankings released by the International Tennis Tennis Federation (ITTF) on Friday, 3rd January 2020.

The updated ranking was released by ITTF on Friday, in which Manav achieved the feat after winning the Under-21 Men’s singles title in December last year at the International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF) Challenge Plus, Benemax-Virgo North America Open by defeating Argentina’s Martin Bentancor 11-3, 11-5 and 11-6 in the finals. Manav becomes the fourth Indian player to win the Benemax-Virgo North American Open in the Under-21 men’s single category. Earlier in February last year, Manav has also achieved the World No. 1 in U-18 rankings and was a part of the Indian Team in the 2018 Asian Games at Jakarta.

Manav went on to become the first Indian table tennis player to achieve the world no.1 ranking in the U-21 category.
