Major Port Authority Bill

The Major Port Authority Bill, which was passed by the Lok Sabha last year, received Upper House’s nod recently. It seeks to repeal the Major Port Trusts Act, 1963. If this Bill becomes a law, 11 of the 12 ports operated by the Central government will have more autonomy and flexibility after the establishment of a Board of Major Port Authority for each major port in the place of the existing Port Trusts.
