Major Infrastructure Projects Under PM GatiShakti

The PM GatiShakti initiative aims to enhance India’s infrastructure, launched on October 13, 2021, it proposes 228 projects worth ₹15.89 lakh crore. These projects span roads, railways, urban development, and oil and gas sectors. Roads lead with 108 projects, followed by 85 for railways.

Network Planning Group (NPG)

The NPG reviews and recommends projects bi-weekly, which ensures multi-modal connectivity and coordination with local development. Projects over ₹500 crore require NPG approval before progressing to the finance ministry and Cabinet clearance.

National Master Plan (NMP)

The initiative employs the NMP, a geospatial platform featuring over 1,600 data layers. This platform encompasses land, ports, forests, and highways. It aids ministries and states in planning and designing projects efficiently.

After NPG approval, projects proceed to the standard approval process, which includes creating a Detailed Project Report (DPR). The DPR outlines project specifics and financial details.

Integration of Land Records

The initiative integrates updated land records through a dedicated portal. Efforts are in progress to develop district master plans. Initially, focus was on 27 aspirational districts.

Sector-Specific Plans for Efficient Logistics (SPEL)

SPEL are being developed to enhance goods movement. Current plans target coal and cement sectors. Work is ongoing for steel and food grains logistics.
