Mahinda Rajapaksa takes oath as Sri Lanka’s new Prime Minister

Mahinda Rajapaksa on Thursday, 21st November took oath as 23rd Prime Minister of Sri Lanka. Mahinda will function as the Prime Minister of the caretaker cabinet as the general election in Srilanka is due in August next year.

Mahinda Rajapaksa, a former President of Sri Lanka (2005-2015) is the elder brother of newly elected President of Srilanka, Gotabaya Rajapaksa. The two brothers- Mahinda and Gotabaya- are being credited for leading a decisive campaign that ended the 25 years long Sri Lankan civil war against the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE).
