Maharashtra topped in LEED-Certified Space in GBCI Report

The Washington, D.C based leading certification agency that provides third part credentialing and verification for rating systems related to the built environment, Green Business Certification Inc (GBCI). released the list of India’s top 10 States for Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) on Tuesday, 21st January 2020. The report was published by the Indian Branch of GBCI in which it reported that Maharashtra has been ranked at the top spot among the states, in the global green building rating system. LEED-certified space in buildings is used as an international symbol for excellence in sustainability by signifying lowering carbon emissions and prioritizing sustainable practices that led to a healthier environment.

The system ranks Indian states in terms of cumulative gross square meters (GSM) of space, certified by the LEED system. Maharashtra with 373 LEED-certified projects has attained 10,258,564 GSM to retained its first position for the second year in a row, followed by Karnataka, Haryana, Tamil Nadu and Uttar Pradesh making the top five spots in the ranking.
