Maharashtra ties-up with Google for Virtual Classes

Maharashtra government has signed an agreement with the technology giant Google Inc. in order to strengthen the online education infra in the state. The state government has signed the pact with the terms that the students and the teachers will get access to Google Classroom and G Suite for Education that will provide solutions to support the remote learning issues during the lockdown situation.

What all will be there in this new model?

The tools provided through this agreement will allow interactive sessions permitting teachers to explain lessons and students are allowed to ask their doubts while sitting at home. The homework of the students can also be uploaded and teachers can also check that online. The proper feedback mechanism is also enabled in this new model.

Coverage of the Project

This scheme will cover over 1.09 lakhs government, private, aided and unaided schools in the state. Over 22 million students will also be benefitted due to the new project launched in collaboration between the government of the state and Google.

Why is it necessary?

The country is going through an unprecedented crisis due to the onset of COVID 19 pandemic across the world. The schools are closed for around 4 months now and the academic year of the students is also on the verge of getting wasted. Therefore, it is necessary that education should not be disrupted. The UN Policy Brief has already estimated that 22 million children around the world will be affected due to the pandemic. Maharashtra is the first state to start with such a project.
