Maharashtra has the Highest Number of Cases Registered under the POCSO Act from 2015 to 2017
The Union Minister of Women and Child Development, Smriti Zubin Irani in a written reply to Rajya Sabha provided the information regarding the total number of cases registered under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, 2012 as per the last three reports of the National Crime Records Bureau(NCRB).
Highlights from the reports:
The total number of cases registered in the country under the POCSO Act 2012 is 34505, 36022 and 32608 in 2015,2016 and 2017 respectively.
In the three years, 2015, 2016 and 2017 combine report, Maharashtra has the highest number of cases registered with 14879 cases followed by Uttar Pradesh with 14390 cases and Madhya Pradesh with 10910 cases.
Lakshadweep recorded the least number of cases in three years combined with 1 in 2015, 5 in 2016 and 4 in 2017 making a total of 9 cases.
Jammu and Kashmir and Goa have recorded 0 cases in 2017.
