Maharashtra Government lowers natural calamity-hit crop loss percentage to 33% for compensation aid
Maharashtra government has decided to bring down the crop loss percentage to 33 per cent from existing 50 per cent.
The crop loss percentage is crucial in awarding compensation to farmers whose crop is hit by natural calamities.
Decision in this regard was taken in the State Cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis.
As per the existing rules, farmers in the state were entitled for government aid and compensation only if 50 per cent and above of their crop are damaged. The state government also has decided to raise the amount of compensation.
As per the new directive
- Farmers who toil crop on non-irrigated land will get compensation of 6,800 rupees up to two hectares in case of damage due to natural calamities
- While in case of irrigated land, farmers are entitled to get compensation of 13,500 rupees up to two hectares.
- Similarly, the compensation in case of horticulture crops is also hiked to 18,000 rupees for up to two hectares.
