Madhya Pradesh: Sportspersons will get 5% reservation in government jobs
The state government of Madhya Pradesh has announced 5% reservation to national and international medallists sportspersons in state government jobs. The announcement in this regard was made by Madhya Pradesh Minister of Sports and Youth Welfare Jitu Patwari while inaugurating the Regional Olympic Games at Kampoo sports complex in Gwalior.
Key Highlights
As per Chief Minister Kamal Nath’s recommendation, a draft of sports policy is being prepared by the state government to include the 5% reservation in government jobs to sportsperson. However, it is yet to be disclosed as what criteria will be considered to provide government jobs to players.
The reservation is being given with keeping in mind that sportsperson have to remain without jobs even after winning medals at the national and international levels. The government will also promote public participation to ensure expansion of sports facilities and creating a better environment for the sports in state.
Other Benefits to sportsperson: Every year, the Madhya Pradesh government provides government jobs to Vikram awardees. Vikram Award is the highest sports awards for players in state. Besides this national and international medallists have quota in state police department.
Regional Olympic Games, Gwalior
These games are being held in Gwalior for all children of all Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) affiliated schools along with government and private schools. The main objective of event is to identify talented players and provide them with better training as well as facilities in sports. These games will cover 10 sports including basketball, hockey, football, volleyball, kho-kho and kabaddi. The under-16 zonal Olympics will also be held in Madhya Pradesh to facilitate talented children as well as to encourage talents at the school level.
