Madhya Pradesh follows Maharashtra, Preamble to be read in Government Schools
As per an order issued by the State Education Department of Madhya Pradesh on Wednesday, 22nd January 2020, the state government of Madhya Pradesh has made the reading of the Preamble to the Constitution in schools mandatory, becoming the second state after Maharashtra to do so. Maharashtra School Education Minister, Varsha Gaikwad earlier this week announced that under the program ‘Sarvabhaumatva Samvidhananche, Janhit Sarvance’ starting from this Republic Day, Preamble of the Constitution to be mandatory in all state government schools after prayer.
As per the order in Madhya Pradesh, the Preamble would be read out every Saturday, by the headmaster or the teacher in all the primary, middle, high and higher secondary schools after prayer, along with the students. It is said that such practice in school would inculcate the interest in our constitution among the students. The move comes at the time when groups of people at various parts of the country have been seen reciting the Preamble of the Constitution to protest against the Citizenship Amendment Act.
