Lower Kalnai project
Lower Kalnai project is a hydroelectric power project in the Doda and Kishtwar districts of Jammu and Kashmir. It is a 48 MW project that is being developed on the Chenab River. Pakistan objected to the design of the project and claimed that it violates the Indus Treaty. However, India has justified the design during the Permanent Indus Commission Meeting. The Chenab River arises in Himachal Pradesh, flows through Jammu and Kashmir and then enters Pakistan’s Punjab before joining with the Indus River. Under the Indus Waters Treaty, the Chenab waters have been allocated to Pakistan.
