Logo and Song of “Destination North East, 2020” festival launched
On September 21, 2020, the Union Minister Shri Jitendra Singh unveiled logo and song for the festival “Destination North East, 2020”. The four-day event is to be formally inaugurated by Home Minister Amit Shah on September 27, 2020.
Significance
The festival helps to familiarize people of other parts of the country with rich unexplored potential of North East. It also promotes tourism potential of the North East. The festival will give boost to handicrafts, handloom, organic products and cultural troupes of North East.
Background
The main objective of the programme is to make the unexplored potentials of the North East Region available to the young entrepreneurs all over the country. The festival was launched in the couple of years in 2018 (in Chandigarh) and in 2019 (in India Gate, New Delhi).
North East Development
The Government of India has been implementing several schemes to promote the north eastern region. India is also focusing more towards Act East Policy to develop the North Eastern states by taking advantage of their strategic location.
The North Eastern Council was established to fasten the projects being implemented in the region. The key members of the council are chief ministers and governors of the eight states in the north east.
North East Industrial Development Scheme
The scheme was launched to promote industrialization, income generation and boost employment. It covers the industrial units in the state of Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Mizoram, Sikkim and Tripura.
North East Special Infrastructure Development Scheme
The main objective of the Northeast special infrastructure Development Scheme is to boost development in the region by providing financial assistance. This is being done by improving physical infrastructure that are related to power water supply connectivity and tourism. Also the social sector related to the creation of infrastructure of primary and secondary sectors of Health and education are focused under the scheme.
