Liberty Medal to Muhammad Ali

The boxing Champion, Muhammad Ali who to retirement from the game in the year 1981 was awarded Liberty Medal in Philadelphia. The boxer was given this the honor for his contribution towards the humanitarian causes like religious freedom and civil rights. 

The Liberty Medal is administered by National Constitution Center of the US. The award is conferred on the leaders who fight for the pursuit of Freedom.

Muhammad Ali, who was born as Cassius Marcellus Clay changed his name to be Muhammad Ali afte joining the Nation of Islam in the year 1964. Ali clinched the world heavyweight title 3 times and is nicknamed as The Greatest. Ali was crowned "Sportsman of the Century" by Sports Illustrated and "Sports Personality of the Century" by the BBC.
