Lek Ladki Yojana and Namo Shetkari Mahasanman Nidhi Yojana

The Maharashtra government has given the green light to two significant welfare schemes aimed at benefiting its citizens. These schemes, designed to support families with annual incomes up to Rs one lakh and farmers across the state, are set to make a substantial impact.

Lek Ladki Yojana – Empowering the Girl Child

One of the key initiatives is the Lek Ladki Yojana, also known as the Dear Daughter scheme. Under this program, the government will provide financial assistance to families with girl children. The scheme is designed to address the financial burden on families and prevent the dropout of girl children from schools.

Financial Support for Every Milestone

The Lek Ladki Yojana offers financial support at various milestones in a girl’s life. The government will provide Rs 5,000 at the time of the girl child’s birth, followed by Rs 6,000 when she is admitted to school, Rs 7,000 when she reaches class 7, and Rs 8,000 when she gets admission to college. Upon turning 18 years old, the girl will receive a significant sum of Rs 75,000. In total, each girl child will receive Rs 1.01 lakh, contributing to her future aspirations and endeavors.

Namo Shetkari Mahasanman Nidhi Yojana – Supporting Farmers

Simultaneously, the government has approved the disbursement of funds to farmers under the Namo Shetkari Mahasanman Nidhi Yojana. This scheme aims to provide financial relief to the state’s farming community. Approximately 90 lakh farmers in Maharashtra will benefit from this program, receiving an annual payment of Rs 6,000.

Effective Implementation

Both schemes are set to be implemented from April 1, 2023, and have garnered the full support of the government. These initiatives reflect the government’s commitment to improving the lives of its citizens and promoting education and financial stability.

Preventing School Dropout and Empowering Girls

Aditi Tatkare, the Minister for Women and Child Development in Maharashtra, highlighted the objective of the Lek Ladki Yojana. The scheme is designed to prevent girls from dropping out of school due to financial constraints in their families. By providing financial support at various stages of their education, this initiative aims to empower girl children and enhance their opportunities.

Eligibility and Family Planning

The cabinet decision outlines that if a family welcomes one or two girls or one boy and one girl after April 1, 2023, the girl child will be eligible for the Lek Ladki scheme. In the case of twin girls born during a second delivery, both children will qualify for the program. However, parents of these children must undergo a family planning operation as part of the eligibility criteria.

Supporting Education and Agriculture

To ensure a smooth educational journey for the girl beneficiaries, the scheme will transfer the money in installments directly to their bank accounts. This approach is aimed at ensuring that their education is completed without interruption.

Funding for Farmers

In addition to the Lek Ladki Yojana, the Maharashtra government has approved the disbursement of Rs 1,720 crore for the first installment of funds under the Namo Shetkari Mahasanman Nidhi Yojana. This funding will be available from April 2023 to July 2023, benefiting around 90 lakh farmers across the state. The funds will be disbursed directly to the farmers’ accounts through the Public Financial Management System (PFMS). This initiative will provide much-needed financial support to the agricultural community in Maharashtra.
