Laureus World Sports Awards 2019

The Laureus World Sports Awards 2019 were presented on 18 February 2019 to honour the greatest sporting achievements of 2018 and celebrate the power of sport to change the world.

Sportsman of the Year: Novak Djokovic, (Serbia) Tennis.
Sportswoman of the Year: Simone Biles (USA) Gymnastics.
Comeback of the Year: Tiger Woods (USA) Golf.
Breakthrough of the Year: Naomi Osaka (Japan) Tennis.
Sportsperson of the Year With A Disability: Henrieta Farkkašová (Slovakia) Skiing.
Action Sportsperson of the Year: Chloe Kim (USA) Snowboarding.
Team of the Year: France World Cup Team (France) Football
Laureus Sporting Moment of the Year: Xia Boyu, China (Climbing Mount Everest).
Academy Exceptional Achievement Award: Eliud Kipchoge, Kenya.
Lifetime Achievement Award: Arsène Wenger, France.
Spirit for Sport Award: Lindsey Vonn, (USA).
Sport For Good Award: Yuwa (India).

NGO Yuwa

NGO Yuwa works specifically with girls from impoverished families in rural Jharkhand. The NGO  uses team sports and education to build character, confidence, and courage.
NGO Yuwa was founded in 2009 when American Franz Gastler moved to Jharkhand from Delhi. The NGO Yuwa has been awarded the Laureus Sport for Good Award for the year 2019. The Laureus Sport for Good Award honours the achievements of those who have demonstrated a tremendous contribution to the sport or to society through sport.
