Laschamps Excursion
Laschamps Excursion or Laschamps Event is a geomagnetic excursion i.e. a change in the magnetic field of the earth. The event was named after a village in French Massif Central. This event took place some 42,000 years ago. A recent study revealed that this event led to drastic changes like destruction of the ozone layer, increased exposure to UV light, extinction of megafauna, electrical storms, shifting weather patterns, southward flow of Arctic air into the North American region, etc.
