Largest conference on traditional medicine: AYUSH Terminologies and their Standardisation held in New Delhi
On February 26, 2020, the largest ever conference on traditional medicine was held in New Delhi. The ICoSDiTAUS-2020 called the International Conference on Standardisation of Diagnosis and Terminologies of AYUSH was attended by 16 countries. It included Serbia, Sri Lanka, Curacao, Mauritius, Iran, Japan, Qatar, Uzbekistan, Bhutan, Switzerland, Myanmar, Cuba, Ghana, Jamaica, Equatorial Guinea and India.
The Conference was organized by the Ministry of AYUSH.
Highlights
The major topic that was discussed at the conference includes “Challenges in Counting and Classification of Traditional Medicine Encounters”. It also discussed about International Classification of Diseases based on traditional medicinal systems.
Significance
AYUSH is acronym of Ayurveda, Yoga and Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha and Homeopathy. GoI has been taking several steps to promote AYUSH. One such step is this conference of standardization. It is important because, AYUSH helps to find cost effective treatment. For a populous country like India where expenditure on health sector is just 1.17% of GDP (2019), cost effective treatments like AYUSH have vital role.
