KVIC’s Khadi Handmade Paper Slippers
KVIC is Khadi and Village Industries Commission. It operates under Ministry of MSME. It has recently launched hand made use and throw paper slippers and also khadi baby wear slippers.
About Khadi baby wear
For the first time, the KVIC has introduced baby wear produce. The Khadi baby wear can be used by babies up to two years. It is made of hand-woven khadi cotton. The cotton is of supreme quality. It is skin friendly and breathable. As it is created using natural fibres, it is eco – friendly. No harmful dyes or chemical treatment are used in preparing the baby wear.
Use and throw Paper Slippers
The product was launched to support the handmade paper industry. The launch will strengthen traditional art in the country. It will generate employment for the artisans. The slippers are made of thick and soft paper board. These boards are handmade. This is a new product. And therefore, is expected to be welcomed by the consumers.
Features of Use and Throw Paper slippers
These slippers were developed for the first time. They are 100% eco – friendly and cost – effective. They are best suited to be used in homes, hospitals, hotels, laboratories. They are available in two types. They are slip – on and flip flop.
Why were the products introduced?
To diversify the product range, to increase the consumption of Khadi fabric and also to generate income for the Khadi artisans.
Manufacturing Units of the Products
The paper slipper manufacturing unit is to be established near Kashi Vishwanath Temple on Makar Sankranti. It is meant for devotees entering the temple. The price of the slippers is Rs 50. The idea of paper slippers came up after PM Modi visited the temple. When the PM visited the temple, he learnt that people work on barefoot in the temple. This is because rubber and leather products are forbidden in temple premises.
