Celebrating 25 Years of Kudumbashree
The event celebrating the silver jubilee of Kudumbashree provided the opportunity to assess its accomplishments, examine the quality of life of its members, and plan for future sustainable development goals.
Releasing the Handbook: Chuvadu (Footsteps)
As part of the celebrations, President Murmu also released a handbook titled “Chuvadu,” which encapsulates the ideas and achievements of Kudumbashree. This handbook provides a roadmap for the future of the organization, showcasing its progress and guiding its future endeavors.
Contributions during the Floods
Kudumbashree has a remarkable history of providing assistance during times of crisis. During the worst flood in Kerala’s recent history, the organization donated Rs 7 crore to the Chief Minister’s distress relief fund. Additionally, Kudumbashree members, themselves victims of the flood, actively participated in cleaning and sanitizing over 0.15 million flood-affected houses and public places. They also provided counseling to over 8,000 families who faced psychological trauma due to the devastation caused by the floods.
Janakeeya Hotels and COVID-19 Response
Amid the COVID-19 pandemic, Kudumbashree demonstrated its resilience and commitment to the community. It established Janakeeya Hotels across the state, providing quality and affordable food to those in need, including individuals in home quarantine and isolation. The organization also played a crucial role in manufacturing and supplying masks and sanitizers and worked with local bodies as a nodal agency for COVID management.
Focus on Women Empowerment and Community Development
Kudumbashree’s work revolves around women empowerment, poverty alleviation, and community development. Over the past 25 years, the organization has transformed the lives of many women from poverty-ridden families into agents of change. It has actively mobilized women in community activities, created employment opportunities, and fostered women’s leadership at various levels of governance.
