Kerala Launches India’s First Supercapacitor Manufacturing Facility
Kerala’s Chief Minister, Pinarayi Vijayan, recently inaugurated India’s first supercapacitor manufacturing facility at Keltron Component Complex Limited (KCCL) in Kallyassery, Kannur. This marks an important milestone for both Keltron and India’s electronics industry.
Keltron’s Legacy
Keltron, founded in 1974, is known as one of the first government-owned companies in the electronics and IT sectors in India. It set a high standard for other government-run companies in the country. With this new supercapacitor facility, Keltron continues to show leadership in the industry.
Importance of the Facility
The new supercapacitor plant was developed with help from the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO). It cost ₹42 crore to build and is expected to strengthen Kerala’s status as a major hub for electronics. The plant will also benefit industries like defence and electric vehicles, which rely on advanced technology.
Kerala’s Bigger Plan for Electronics
The Kerala government has plans to invest ₹1,000 crore more to boost the electronics sector. This includes upgrading current factories and building new infrastructure, like an IT corridor and an electronics manufacturing park in Amballur. These steps aim to make Kerala a leader in electronics manufacturing.
Keltron’s Role in Kerala’s Growth
Keltron will play a key role in making Kerala an electronics manufacturing center. The company is working on modernising its facilities and creating small manufacturing clusters and testing centers to help local companies grow.
What are Supercapacitors?
Supercapacitors are special devices that can store and release energy very quickly. This makes them very useful for electric vehicles and space missions. They are also important for the defence, automotive, and aerospace industries, which need reliable and fast energy solutions.
KCCL plans to produce up to 2,000 supercapacitors every day, meeting high global standards. The facility expects to earn ₹22 crores per year and make a profit of ₹3 crores within the next four years.
The inauguration was attended by important figures, including Kerala’s Minister for Industry and Law, P. Rajeev, and Keltron’s Chairman, N. Narayana Murthy. This event highlighted the teamwork between government and industry leaders to help grow Kerala’s electronics sector.
This new facility represents a big step forward for Kerala and India in the world of advanced electronics, showing the potential for growth in high-tech industries.
