The Kashi Vishwanath Temple Corridor project is a dream project of Prime Minister Modi. The project will build a corridor that connects the Kashi Vishwanath temple with the famous ghats of Varanasi.

Why is Kashi Vishwanath Temple Corridor constructed?

During festivals times, the narrow, small and claustrophobic lanes struggle to manage huge crowds. Around five thousand people visit the temple on regular basis. During special occasions such as Mahashivaratri, it reaches to three lakhs. The corridor is constructed to ease the congestion. The project also aims to provide clean roads, clean drinking waster and bright street lights.

What is the significance of Kashi Vishwanath Temple Corridor Project?

The Kashi Vishwanath Temple is the most famous Hindu Temples in the country. It is located in Varanasi, the constituency of Prime Minster Modi. The temple is one of the twelve Jyhotirlingas. The main deity is Lord Shiva. He is known as Vishwanathar. The ancient name of the city is Kashi and thus, it is called Kashi Vishwanath Temple. The original Vishwanth temple was destroyed by Aibak in 1194 CE. Later the temple was rebuilt by a Gujarati merchant. Again, it was domlished by Delhi Sultan Iltutmish in the 13th century. Raja Man Singh built the temple during Akbar’s rule. Raja Todar Mal further developed it with Akbar’s funding. But Emperor Aurangzeb destroyed the temple and built Gyanvapi mosque in its place. The current temple was built by Ahilyabai Holkar in 1780. Apart from such historical importance, the temple has huge religious significance as well.
