K-4 Ballistic Missile Successfully Tested
Ballistic Missile K-4 successfully tested around noon on Sunday, 19th January 2020 from a submerged pontoon (a type of boat) off the Vishakhapatnam coast by the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO). The missile has been tested under developmental trials earlier several times, but during Sunday’s test, the missile was tested from a submerged platform (launch situation from a submarine simulated by Pontoon) to the surface(sea) which is the toughest part. As only a few countries have been able to achieve the technological breakthrough to date, the DRDO officials informed that the test conducted has met all the desired parameters and also stated that the Circular Error Probability (CEP- It determines the accuracy of a missile) developed by DRDO is more sophisticated than the ones created by China. The three-meter-tall missile carries a nuclear warhead of over one tonne and once inducted will provide India standoff capability to launch nuclear weapons submerged in Indian waters.
