Justice Dr Ravi Ranjan sworn in as 13th Chief Justice of Jharkhand High Court

Justice Dr Ravi Ranjan was sworn in as the 13th Chief Justice of Jharkhand High Court. He was administered oath to office and secrecy under Article 219 of Constitution by Governor Draupadi Murmu at the Raj Bhavan in Jharkhand’s capital Ranchi.  The post of Chief Justice of Jharkhand High Court was lying vacant since early May 2019 after the elevation of former Jharkhand HC Chief Justice Aniruddha Bose to the Supreme Court.

About Justice Dr Ravi Ranjan

Prior to his appointment as the Chief Justice of Jharkhand HC, Justice Ravi Ranjan was serving in the Punjab and Haryana High Court. He was elevated to Additional Judge of Patna HC in July 2008. Later, he was appointed as permanent judge in January 2010. He also served as Acting Chief Justice of the Patna HC for a brief period in 2018.

Article 219 (Oath or affirmation by Judges of High Courts): According to it, every person appointed to be a Judge of a High Court, before entering upon his office, make and subscribe before Governor of the State, or some person appointed in that behalf by him. This oath or affirmation is according to the form set out for the purpose in the Third Schedule of the Constitution.
