June 14: World blood donor day observed across the globe 

Objective: 

• To spread awareness about the need for safe and secure blood supplies.
• The day provides an opportunity to draw public attention to the importance of blood donation for saving lives.

Theme for 2012: “Every blood donor is a hero”
Union Health Ministry of India is planning a countrywide database of blood donors linked through email and social media.
