J&K Women Safety Squad
The Jammu and Kashmir Police recently started Two women safety squad in Srinagar city. Each squad will comprise of 5 Lady Police officers or personnel each. Both the squads will be headed by Inspector Khalida Parveen.
What is the purpose of Women Safety Squad?
The women safety squad was started to help women in distress. Its main purpose is to ensure the security of girls especially across schools, colleges, universities, coaching centres, and other such places. They would be patrolling all across the city including educational institutions, during the day. Heads of the Institutions have also been asked to contact women squad in case, any incident takes place outside their centres.
Significance of the move
The woman safety squad in Srinagar city will make women feel much safer. Several girls were being harassed outside colleges or coaching centres. This incident will stop as there will be a dedicated squad to report. The squad will be dedicated to the security of women.
Women’s helpline
Srinagar Police also launched a dedicated Women’s helpline number. It is operational 24×7 exclusively for women’s safety-related issues.
Background
The women safety squad has been created after a recent acid attack incident that took place in Srinagar city. The girl suffered grievous injuries in her both eyes. In another incident, two drug peddlers attacked two girls, leaving them injured.
