“Jim Corbett – Friend of the Wild” – Book to pay tribute to Jim Corbett

To celebrate the 137^th birth anniversary of legendary conservationist Jim Corbett, Amar Chitra Katha will release a his graphic biography in bookstores across the country on July 25, 2012.

The book titled “Jim Corbett – Friend of the Wild” describes Corbett’s life of the famous hunter and nature protectionist.

Who was Jim Corbett?

He was a famous British hunter who later became conservationist, author and naturalist.
His full name was Edward James "Jim" Corbett
Born: July 25, 1875 Nainital, India
He held the rank of colonel in the British Indian Army and was often called upon by the government of the United Provinces, (now Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand), to kill man-eating tigers and leopards that were troubling people in the nearby villages of the Garhwal and Kumaon region. His hunting prowess earned him a high respect and fame amongst the people living in the villages of Kumaon.
Corbett was also a photography enthusiast. He penned books like The Man-Eaters of Kumaon, Jungle Lore reminiscing his hunts and experiences, which gained much critical applaud and commercial success.
Corbett put forward the need to save India’s wildlife from extinction and played a remarkable role in establishing a national reserve for the endangered Bengal tiger by using his influence to convince the provincial government to create it. The national park was renamed Jim Corbett National Park in his honor after his death in 1957.
