The government has set up a new ministry Jal Shakti to cater for the multiple aspects relating to water.

Jal Shakti Ministry

  • Jal Shakti Ministry has been set up with a motto to provide safe drinking water to people.
  • The new ministry has been created by reorganising the earlier Ministry of Water Resources, River Development and Ganga Rejuvenation and merging the Ministry of Drinking Water and Sanitation.
  • The Ministry will deal with issues ranging from international and inter-states water disputes, the Namami Gange project which is a flagship initiative to clean the river, its tributaries and sub-tributaries and provide clean drinking water.

The manifesto of the ruling BJP had mentioned the creation of a unified Ministry of Water to end the water problems in the country. The Jal Shakti Ministry aims to ensure clean water and top class irrigation water facilities for the farmers.
