Is the right to carry on a profession, trade or business under Article 19 (1) (g) of the Indian Constitution qualified?
Article 19 (1) (g) of the Indian Constitution guarantees to all citizens the right to practice any profession, or to carry on any occupation, trade or business. This Article uses four expressions, viz., profession, occupation, trade and business. Their fields may overlap but each of these expressions has a content of its own distinct from the others. Under Article 19 (6), however, the state is not prevented from making a law imposing, in the interests of the general public, reasonable restrictions on the exercise of the above right.
