Invermectin
Invermectin is a drug used for treating various parasitic infections. South Africa is currently permitting its usage against the COVID-19 infection in exceptional circumstances despite the lack of sound evidence of its safety and efficiency. Its neighbour, Zimbabwe, is also permitting this drug’s usage. This contentious permission was provided by South Africa in a bid to curb the “uncontrolled use of ivermectin” and to meet the doctors’ appeal to have access to the drug.
