International Conference on Teacher Education by NCTE held in New Delhi
A two-day International Conference titled ‘Journey of Teacher Education: Local to Global’ was inaugurated by Ramesh Pokhriyal ‘Nishank’, Union Minister of Human Resource Development (HRD) in New Delhi. The two-day event is organized by National Council of Teacher Education (NCTE) as part of silver jubilee (25 years) celebration of its establishment in 1995.
Key Highlights
Conference Objective: To bring our school education system in alignment with global trends.
It provides a platform to renowned academicians, educationist, thinkers, administrators and practitioners to brainstorm various challenges, issue and solutions for existing teacher education system in India.
40 renowned experts from India and abroad will deliberate upon key areas such as-
- Present scenario of teacher education in Indian context.
- Innovations in teaching practices.
- Integration of information and communications technology (ICT) in teaching.
- Inclusive education in teaching-learning environment.
- Internationalization of teacher education.
Upcoming Government Initiative in Education Field:
On 22 August 2019, HRD Ministry would be launching a mission called NISHTHA (National Initiative on School Teachers Head Holistic Advancement). It is world’s biggest project for teacher training through which more than 42 lakh teachers will be trained.
About National Council of Teacher Education (NCTE)
It was established on 17 August 1995.
It was tasked to achieve planned and coordinated development of teacher education system throughout India and to maintain norms and standards therein.
It serves as an advisory body to Central and State Governments for ensuring maintenance of standards and quality in Teacher Education.
Mandate: NCTE covers entire gamut of Teacher Education programmes. It includes research and training of persons to equip them to teach (at stages of pre-primary, primary, secondary and senior secondary schools) as well as distance education courses, part-time education, non-formal education and adult education.
At present, teacher education institutions in country offers 17 Teacher Education programmes recognized by NCTE for prospective school teachers.
