International Conference on Yoga held in Mysuru

Union Ministry of Ayurveda, Yoga & Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha, Sowa Rigpa and Homoeopathy (AYUSH) organized a two-day International Conference on Yoga at Mysuru, Karnataka from 15-16 November 2019. During the Conference, the Minister of State for AYUSH Shripad Yesso Naik announced that the International Yoga Day 2020 event will be held in Mysuru.

Key Highlights

Conference Theme: ‘Yoga for Heart Care’. The theme-based annual event largely focuses on research in yoga with experts discussing and sharing their thoughts on the subject.

This year’s conference is 5th in series to commemorate unanimous adoption of Resolution by United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) during its 69th session in 2014 for observing 21st June as International Day of Yoga.

Since UN declaration of International Day of Yoga, overwhelming interest towards Yoga has been witnessed from international communities globally. Thus, AYUSH Ministry has been organizing International Yoga Conferences every year since 2015.

More than 700 national and international delegates participated in the conference spread over 10 technical sessions involving 50 resource persons and experts. Technical sessions are being conducted on sub-themes including– ‘Yoga for heart care; emerging trends and researches’, ‘Yoga for coronary artery disease’, ‘Role of Yoga in the management of Hypertension’ and ‘Role of Yoga in preventive cardiology’.

The discussion on the need to promote yoga as a sport was held with resource persons from India and abroad.
