International Anti-Corruption Day

International Anti-Corruption Day is an annually observed event on the 9th December to raise public awareness for anti-corruption.
On 31st October 2003, the United Nations General Assembly adopted the United Nations Convention against Corruption and designated 9th December as the International Anti-Corruption Day, which was first observed in 2005.
Corruption is a phenomenon, complex, social, economic and political that affects every country and undermines its democratic institutions, contributes to government instability and slows the economic development of the country.
Every year an estimated USD 2.6 trillion are stolen through corruption while an estimated USD 1 trillion is paid in bribes- a sum equivalent to above 5 percent of the global GDP.
