Integrated Command-Control Centre in All Smart Cities
Out of the 100 cities in the country that are being developed under the Smart Cities Mission (SCM), in 80 of them, the Integrated Command and Control Centres (ICCCs) have already been set up. By 15th August 2022, the rest of them will also have the Integrated Command and Control Centres.
Overview:
- The Integrated Command and Control Centres or ICCCs are a key part of the Smart Cities project.
- This project has the aim of developing 100 self-sustainable, citizen-friendly urban settlements.
- The home ministry has the aim of finalizing the ICCC model and implementing a pilot project across the states of Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, and Rajasthan.
About ICCCs
The ICCCs have been designed for real-time monitoring and were at first aimed at monitoring and controlling power and water, traffic movement, sanitation, city connectivity, integrated building management, and Internet infrastructure. However, the ICCCs will now also be linked to the Crime and Criminal Tracking Networks and Systems (CCTNS) of the Home Ministry. During the COVID-19 pandemic, these command centres also functioned as war rooms. The smart infrastructure that has been developed under the Smart Cities Mission like the ICCCs helped in the fight against the pandemic through better communication, information dissemination, supporting effective management, and predictive analysis.
About Smart Cities Mission
It is an initiative that falls under the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs. This initiative was launched to improve the quality of life of people through local development, drive economic growth, and harness technology to create smart outcomes for the citizens of the country.
